Weeks after being dropped from ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball TV broadcast, play-by-play voice Jon Miller decided not to accept the network’s offer to continue working for ESPN Radio.
Miller declined what his agent referred to as a “very nice, comprehensive package” of regular season and postseason games on ESPN Radio, reports the New York Times. The move means Miller, like former broadcast partner Joe Morgan, is gone from ESPN altogether.
From 1990-2010, Miller and Morgan were part of ESPN’s lead MLB broadcast team, working alongside Steve Phillips in 2009 and Orel Hershiser in 2010.
ESPN decided not to renew their contracts at the end of this season, but offered Miller the aforementioned ESPN Radio deal.
The New York Times report mentioned FOX and MLB Network as potential landing spots for Miller, who will continue in his role as the local play-by-play voice of the defending champion Giants.
In addition, the report says ESPN plans to use Dan Shulman, Bobby Valentine and Orel Hershiser on Sunday Night Baseball next season.
