NASCAR ratings remain stuck in reverse.
NASCAR Cup Series racing from Watkins Glen (N.Y.) earned a 2.0 rating and 3.3 million viewers on NBCSN Sunday, down 13% in ratings and 15% in viewership from last year, when coverage aired on USA Network opposite the Olympics (2.3, 3.8M), and down 20% and 18% respectively from 2015 (2.5, 4.0M).
It was the lowest rated edition of the race since at least 1999 and the least-watched since at least 2001, falling below the previous marks set last year.
Excluding rainouts, ratings and viewership have declined for 18 of 21 Cup Series races this season. Watkins Glen was the 17th race to at least tie an all-time or decade-plus ratings low, and the 15th to do so in viewership.
Despite the lower numbers, NASCAR was the top sporting event of the weekend in ratings, viewership and adults 18-49 (0.6). In the former two measures, it has now topped the charts on four straight weekends.
