FOX ended its regular season NFL coverage with strong numbers for Sunday’s Week 17 doubleheader.
The Week 17 NFL national window on FOX, featuring Packers/Bears in 56% of TV markets, earned a 16.3 overnight rating Sunday afternoon — even with Week 17 last year (PHI/DAL*: 16.3), and up 15% from Week 17 in 2008 (DAL/PHI*: 14.3).
The 16.3 overnight is the fifteenth-highest of the season for an NFL telecast on FOX, NBC, CBS or ESPN (87 telecasts). Overnights for games on NFL Network were not available.
Sixteen NFL telecasts topped a 16.0 overnight rating this season, compared to nine last year.
Earlier in the day, NFL action featuring Buccaneers/Saints in 70% of TV markets earned a 12.5 overnight on FOX, up 7% from last year (NYG/MIN*: 11.7), and up 28% from 2008 (NYG/MIN*: 9.8).
The 12.5 overnight is the second-highest of the season for the first game of an NFL doubleheader.
The games on FOX drew higher overnights than both games of Sunday’s Week 17 doubleheader on CBS.
