Former ESPN anchor Keith Olbermann has left NBC, just months after he was removed from the network’s Football Night in America NFL pregame show.
Olbermann announced on-air Friday night that he was leaving his MSNBC cable news program, which he had hosted since 2003. An NBC News press release confirmed that MSNBC and Olbermann had “ended their contract” (NBC, 1/21/11).
During his tenure at NBC, Olbermann co-hosted the network’s Football Night in America NFL pregame show from 2007 to 2010. He was removed from Football Night for the 2010-11 season, reportedly at the request of NBC News.
In addition, he contributed to the network’s coverage of Super Bowl XLIII in 2009 and the Summer Olympics in 2004.
Prior to joining NBC, Olbermann worked for ESPN from 1992-97 and FOX Sports from 1999-01. He hosted the 2000 World Series on FOX.
