News Corporation’s FX will begin airing college football games this fall under the label ‘Fox Sports on FX’.
FX will air weekly college football action during the 2011-12 season, the network announced Tuesday. The first telecast is scheduled for September 3.
The network’s slate will feature at least thirteen in-conference and non-conference games from the Pac-12, Big-12 or Conference USA.
Fox Sports has existing rights deals with the Pac-12, Big-12 and C-USA. This season, FOX will air the Pac-12 Championship Game and the Big Ten Championship Game (not to be confused with the now defunct Big-12 title game), while the Conference USA title game will air on FOX, FSN or FX.
Interestingly, the press release announcing the move twice referred to ‘Fox Sports on FX’. If that is indeed the brand for sports programming on FX, it would continue a trend started by Disney’s ‘ESPN on ABC’ and continued by Comcast’s ‘Golf Channel on NBC’.
