TNT began its coverage of the second round of the NBA Playoffs with strong numbers for Hawks/Bulls and Mavericks/Lakers.
Monday’s NBA playoff doubleheader averaged a 4.4 overnight rating on TNT, up 16% from last year (3.8).
In particular, the Mavericks’ close Game 1 win over the Lakers earned a 4.7 overnight, up 42% from last year (SA/PHX G1: 3.3). The game earned a 14.9 rating in Los Angeles and an 11.1 in Dallas.
Earlier in the night, the Hawks’ Game 1 upset of the Bulls drew a 4.1 overnight, actually down 7% from last year (BOS/CLE G2: 4.4). The game drew a 16.7 rating in Chicago and an 8.0 in Atlanta.
Keep in mind that last year’s Cavaliers/Celtics series was arguably the highest profile of the postseason.
