Baseball on FOX scored its lowest rating of the season last Saturday, as regional coverage drew a 1.8/5. The rating was down 33% from last season, marking the seventh straight week of ratings declines for baseball on FOX (not including the All Star Game, which was down 10% from 2006). MLB on FOX is now down 4% from the season-to-date average last year; FOX entered the All Star break with ratings up 4%.
One reason for the lower ratings may be the fact that the Yankees have not appeared on FOX since the All Star Break. Ratings for telecasts involving the Yankees have averaged a 2.8, an increase of 17% over the full season average of 2.4. This week, the Yankees will appear on FOX for the first time since July 7, when they take on the Detroit Tigers. After that, the Yankees will not appear again until September 15 against the Red Sox; one would expect that match-up to draw high ratings, though it will air opposite several college football games.
