In case anyone thought the special, pre-NFL edition of Countdown with Keith Olbermann airing on NBC this Sunday would be a toned-down, possibly sports-centric episode of the show, host Keith Olbermann has something else in mind.
That something is a regular episode of his show — possibly complete with infamous right wing pundit Bill O’Reilly winning the Worst Person in the World award. “Not one word has been said to me about any content,” Olbermann tells Gail Shister of TVNewser, “It will be driven by the day’s, or the weekend’s news. There will certainly be a political roundup and a presidential campaign segment. Since this is the one week of the year without a debate, there won’t be a debate story.”
The appropriateness of having a member of the NFL broadcast team talk politics for an hour before the game was not discussed by Olbermann, who views the special edition of his show as “a great opportunity to advertise our product. It’s an hour-long infomercial.”
During halftime of the preseason game following Countdown on Sunday, Olbermann will discuss Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick, possibly in the form of one of his special comments — though it was unclear in the TVNewser piece exactly in what manner Olbermann will tackle the subject.
