The Pussycat Dolls may no longer be the least appropriate musician or group to ever perform the theme for a network sports telecast.
Richard Sandomir of the New York Times reports that country music artist Faith Hill will sing the theme for Sunday Night Football this season. Hill will replace last year’s performer, Pink. The song will continue to be “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night”.
Faith Hill joins an ever-expanding list of mainstream performers who have sung the themes for network sports telecasts. Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Justin Timberlake, The Black Eyed Peas, Destiny’s Child, Rob Thomas, Tom Petty, The Pussycat Dolls, Aerosmith, Hank Williams Jr., the troika of 50 Cent, Perry Farrell and Kelly Rowland, and the aforementioned Pink have all previously had such roles.
Look for ABC to one-up NBC by having Celine Dion perform the new NBA theme this Christmas.
