For the third straight week, ratings fell for NASCAR on ABC. For the second straight week, that decline was minimal.
The Bank of America 500 drew a 4.0 rating on ABC Saturday night, down 2% from a 4.1 rating for the same race last year. The 4.0 overnight is the third highest for a NASCAR race on ABC this year, and marks a 29% boost over the 3.1 average overnight for Saturday Night Football on ABC.
The race drew 6.1 million viewers, eclipsed by Game 2 of the ALCS on FOX, which drew 8.9. ABC finished third for the night, behind NBC and FOX, and the race finished third in total viewers — behind the aforementioned ALCS game and a re-run of Cold Case on CBS.
Through six races, ABC is averaging a 3.5 metered market rating for NASCAR telecasts. FOX averaged a 4.9* metered market rating for eleven NASCAR telecasts this year.
