Ratings and viewership dipped for the opener of the Diamondbacks/Brewers National League Division Series.
Game 1 between the Diamondbacks and Brewers drew a 1.6 final rating and 2.436 million viewers on TBS Saturday afternoon, down 11% in ratings but up 1% in viewership from the comparable game on the second day of last year’s postseason (TEX/TB G2: 1.8, 2.421M), and down 27% and 18%, respectively, from 2009 (COL/PHI G2: 2.2, 2.955M).
The 2010 and 2009 games aired at 2:30 PM ET on Thursday afternoons. While Saturday’s game had the disadvantage of airing opposite college football, it also had the benefit of not taking place while many viewers were at work.
Of the 61 Division Series games on Turner Sports (dates back to 2007), the Brewers’ win ranks as the sixth-least viewed. That said, the game was not even the least-viewed matchup of the day. Rays/Rangers Game 2 drew 2.165 million viewers on TNT, albeit facing direct competition from Tigers/Yankees on TBS.
Locally, the Brewers’ win drew a 19.7 rating in Milwaukee and a 7.5 in Phoenix.
