- The NBA and KIA Motors have entered into a multi-year partnership that will see four of the major NBA awards — the MVP, Most Improved Player, Defensive Player of the Year and Sixth Man awards — sponsored by KIA. The four awards, in addition to the Player of the Month awards in the East and West, will be grouped into “a single series called ‘The NBA Performance Awards Presented by Kia.’“
- The IRL will have a new look on ESPN/ABC this season, as all sixteen races will be presented in high definition. Last year’s Indianapolis 500 was the first IRL race ever to air in HD. ESPN/ABC will also use an “HD onboard camera that can provide a rotating 360-degree view.”
- The first sport to benefit from the writer’s strike is apparently figure skating. NBC has moved coverage of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships to prime-time on January 26 and 27, replacing episodes of Dateline.
