Apple TV

Leagues: Major League Soccer

Cost: Every week there are six games free to watch. An MLS Season Pass subscription to access all MLS content is $14.99 a month or $12.99 a month if you are already subscribed to Apple TV+. You can sign up here.

Additional Content: MLS360 is an NFL Redzone lookalike, whipping the viewer around the league to see where the latest action is, tremendously aiding the fan’s ability to keep with the entire league on matchday. In addition, all MLS production content is hosted on this platform. This means subscribers get all kinds of Apple produced MLS content. ExtraTime Podcast? It’s there. Short episodic specials on different fan cultures around MLS? The Ritual is ready to be viewed at your leisure. Want to relive the best playoff moments or the best plays or even games from MLS history? Take a walk down memory lane on MLS Season Pass. There is simply a ton of additional content outside of the games, and with a 10 year deal in place, you can continue to expect more — and increasingly higher quality — content to come from Apple.

Why You Should Have It: If you have any inkling of keeping up with the domestic game, this is your one stop shop. Consider yourself more of a casual fan and you’re not ready to commit to the cost? No problem, you can watch several games a week for free to see if it meets your expectations – even MLS360 is free to watch. If you are a die-hard fan, this is a must-buy, especially with the additional content offerings and zero blackout restrictions, so you can watch your favorite team all the time and get all the additional, outside the game, content that your heart desires.

Peacock

Leagues: English Premier League, Chivas de Guadalajara games (Liga MX)

Cost: $4.99 per month/$49.99 per year. You can sign up here.

Additional Content: Peacock is all about the English Premier League. You can watch highlights, full match replays, and analysis on every single game. In addition, there are a lot of behind the scenes programming as well, such as a 10 minute clip on how AI is driving player recruitment and transfer strategy. You also have access to The Men in Blazers, a genuinely hilarious talk show hosted by Roger Bennett and Michael Davies that recaps Premier League matches and off-field drama, often while entertaining and/or interviewing a famous (soccer famous or otherwise) guest. There is also a smattering of documentaries available to watch, such as Deadline Day or Messi. But it is not exactly the most exhaustive list. Outside of soccer, Peacock is also home to all NBC programming which means a subscription will get you access to events like Sunday Nigh Football, Big Ten football, the Olympics, IndyCar, NASCAR, golf events, and more.

Why You Should Have It: If you are a Premier League fan, this is the subscription for you. Access to every game and analysis at an affordable price point means that whether you are a diehard Evertonian worried about the threat of relegation, or just a casual fan who wants to see matches from the richest league in the world, this subscription represents a great deal. Don’t expect a ton of additional content from Peacock, but there are still some options for you should you want to explore the world of English soccer outside of the pitch, including one of the more entertaining soccer shows in The Men in Blazers.

ESPN+

Leagues: Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga, UEFA Nations League, English FA Cup, Spanish Copa del Rey, German DFB-Pokal, English Carabao Cup, USL Championship, USL League One, English Championship, English League One, English League Two, German 2. Bundesliga, Belgian Jupiler Pro League, Dutch Eredivisie, Swedish Allsvenskan, Danish Superliga, Australian A-League

Cost: $9.99 per month/$99.99 per year as a standalone option. You can bundle ESPN+, Disney+, and Hulu for $12.99 per month. Sign up here.

Additional Content: ESPN FC and Fútbol Americas are your two main places of additional, outside the lines content. ESPN FC is a studio show hosted by Dan Thomas who is usually flanked by 2-3 pundits out of the pool of Craig Burley, Shaka Hislop, Kasey Keller, Alejandro Moreno, and Steve Nichol. The show is centered around recapping the latest in the world of soccer, usually containing highlights and discussions on the latest happenings. While occasionally getting dragged for some uninspired and sometimes confusing posts on their social media accounts, the show still does give a solid place to catch up on general soccer highlights.

Fútbol Americas, is more of a talk show featuring Sebastian Salazar and former USMNT forward Herculez Gomez while featuring guests from the soccer world. Unlike The Men in Blazers though, Fútbol Americas keeps things more serious with a focus on US and Mexican players, leagues, and national teams.

In addition to those daily shows, ESPN+ is home to the largest selection of documentaries on soccer in the streaming world. ESPN 30 For 30 has its share of great soccer themed episodes, such as The Two Escobars, which details the entwined life and death of both Columbian soccer player Andres Escobar and the infamous Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar and is a must watch for any sports fan. ESPN 30 For 30: Soccer Stories features 8 episodes on various soccer events in history, from the Hillsborough disaster, to Diego Maradona’s 1986 World Cup run, to the Falklands War impact on two Argentinian soccer legends in England.

Why You Should Have It: ESPN+ is, by far, the best value you can get when it comes to a soccer streaming subscription. While the broadcast quality isn’t the best, the catalog of leagues is incredibly impressive and the daily shows do the job, even if they aren’t the most entertaining options. Then when you add in all the incredible additional content through documentaries and behind the scenes films and episodes, this becomes a no-brainer. While other streaming service may service hardcore fans through a great production of one particular competition, ESPN+ gives you the biggest selection of soccer games in the world, at a very reasonable price point, especially if you decide to bundle and get Hulu and Disney+ as well.

Paramount+

Leagues: UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, Italian Serie A, Coppa Italia, Brasileirāo, Argentine Primera, Scottish Championship, NWSL

Cost: $4.99 per month/$49.99 per year. Sign up here.

Additional Content: CBS Sports Golazo Network is the recently launched soccer-centric arm of Paramount. It contains a couple of studio shows: Morning Footy and Box 2 BoxMorning Footy, which airs weekdays from 7-9am, is considered the “flagship” show on the Golazo Network, and is a direct competitor to ESPN FC. Hosted by Susannah Collins with an MLS heavy crew of Charlie Davies, Nico Cantor, Alexis Guerreros and Jenny Chiu, this show recaps as much of the soccer world with highlights and analysis as it can in its daily two hour timeslot. Box 2 Box is a one hour news-driven show that airs weekdays from 1-2pm and is hosted by Poppy Miller with analysts Ian Paul Joy and Aaron West.

However, the real gem of Paramount+ is their soccer studio coverage for Champions League matches. Hosted by Kate Abdo with the analyst team of French legend Thierry Henry, former Liverpool stalwart Jamie Carragher, and former Manchester City defender Micah Richards, Paramount struck gold. It is not only the best studio team in the soccer world, but I would say the second best studio team across all of sports, behind only the Inside the NBA crew of Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkely. A true soccer equivalent to Inside the NBA, the chemistry between Abdo, Henry, Carragher, and Richards, is incredibly fun to watch, providing both insightful analysis and hilarious banter.

Why You Should Have It: If you want to watch the best soccer players in the world play against each other, this is a must-have. Champions League soccer is the highest level of soccer in the world, and Paramount+ does it justice. Broadcasters are at the match, something ESPN+ almost never provides, and the presentation is not only gorgeous but feels informed and thoughtful to the audience. Add on the incredible studio show and yes, this is the best live match production of any pure streaming service and the quality matches that of NBC Premier League matches.

Fubo TV

Leagues: French Ligue 1 (via BeIN), Mexican Liga MX (via FS1, FS2, Univision), Turkish Süper Lig (via BeIN), along with access to USA Network (OTT English Premier League), CBSSN (OTT Paramount+ games)

Cost: $74.99 per year. Sign up here. Fubo TV is the least expensive way to stream the French Ligue 1, Mexican Liga MX, and Turkish Süper Lig, as it comes with Fubo’s base package. Other streaming services provide access to BeIN and FS1/FS2/Univison as an additional add-on. For a complete sports streaming guide, click here.

Why You Should Have It: If you are looking for a streaming television service and you want to squeeze the most soccer out of the basic package, Fubo TV is the way to go. While other services will offer add-on channels to get your soccer fix, Fubo TV has the most soccer-related channels in their standard packages, including BeIN, the only place where you can watch Lionel Messi play club soccer in the French Ligue 1. If you can’t get any streaming services and are looking at getting one service provider, Fubo TV will get you the most bang for your buck. Messi, Champions League, Premier League, and the MLS match of the week, while also having access to Fox Sports properties, the home of the men’s and women’s World Cup, is not a bad place to start.

Max (formerly HBO Max)

Leagues: USMNT, USWNT

Cost: $9.99 per month/$99.99 per year

Additional Content: No soccer-related additional content.

Why You Should Have It: Honestly, this is mostly a luxury subscription. If you want to watch all the USMNT and USWNT games, then get it, but the main draw definitely isn’t soccer. HBO gets you so much outside of soccer that it may be worth it to have on its own, but it is tough to justify the price tag if you are only using it to watch USMNT and USWNT, especially when most games will be shown on TNT or TBS through cable.
