NCAA Tournament: Slight Drop For Thursday’s ‘Second Round’ Action

Posted by | March 16, 2012 at 12:09 PM

Overnight ratings dipped slightly for the first full day of the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Four NCAA Tournament telecast windows on CBS, TNT, TBS and TruTV averaged a combined 5.6 overnight rating Thursday, down a tick from last year (5.7), but up 22% from coverage of the 2010 tournament on CBS alone (4.6).

The 5.6 is the second-highest average overnight for the first Thursday of the NCAA Tournament since the current four-telecast format began in 1991.

Overnight ratings for each of the individual telecast windows were not immediately available.

Wouldn’t it be second-highest after last year?

You’re correct; thanks for spotting the error.

I hate being the negative one but if you’re going to compare ratings from the last two years with years prior, you should show the following. What were the ratings on CBS alone and what were the combined tv ratings for the 4 channels pre-2011, regardless of whether they were showing NCAA basketball or not. Otherwise the comparison is not valid. Thanks for ratings though, I’m always checking out this site.
