- NBC: Sunday Night Football finally saw big ratings this week; Cowboys/Bears drew a 13.7 overnight rating, the highest of the year on NBC. Ratings for the game and Football Night in America were up 28% and 27%, respectively, from last year.
- The only thing worse than the play of 0-4 Notre Dame may be the ratings for their games. NBC drew a 2.3 overnight for another Irish blowout loss, the lowest overnight for a Notre Dame game on NBC since Notre Dame/Army drew a 1.6 rating last year, opposite ratings colossus Michigan/Ohio State. The 2.3 is down 62% from last year’s Michigan State/Notre Dame game, which aired in primetime on ABC.
- FOX: For the third straight week, ratings were down for NFL on FOX. Early game coverage was down 1% from last year, from a 7.5 to a 7.4, while late afternoon coverage of Giants/Washington fell 5% from the comparable Giants/Seahawks game in ’06. One consolation: FOX NFL Sunday beat The NFL Today for the first time this season.
- CBS: Once again, the NFL on CBS enjoyed increased ratings for the 1:00 PM window. The 11.9/25 the network drew for regional coverage marks a 12% increase from last year’s number.
- A battle of Top 25 teams gave SEC coverage on CBS a major shot in the arm on Saturday. The 2.7 for South Carolina/LSU finished up 23% from last year, though the game still lost in its timeslot to the Penn State/Michigan telecast on ABC.
- ABC: College football plummeted on ABC Saturday. Ratings for the early game, Penn State/Michigan, were down 29% from a 5.5 overnight for comparable coverage last year. Saturday Night Football, which featured regional action, was down a staggering 46%, from a 6.1 last year to a 3.3. For the weekend, ABC averaged a 3.6 rating, down 38% from a 5.8 average last year.
Auto racing.
3.3: NASCAR on ABC, Dodge Dealers 400 (1:30 PM Sunday)
1.3: NASCAR Countdown on ABC (1:00 PM Sunday)
0.5/1: Championship Off Road Racing on NBC (2:00 PM Sunday)
- Another week of mediocre ratings for Nextel Cup racing on ABC. The 3.3 overnight for the Dodge Dealers 400 is the second lowest overnight rating for NASCAR on network television in at least the last three years. The 3.3 also marks the second lowest overnight ever for a Chase for the Cup race on network television; only the 2.8 overnight for last week’s race was lower.
Other.
2.1: MLB on FOX, Regional action (3:30 PM Saturday)
0.7/2: AST Dew Tour on NBC (2:00 PM Saturday)
0.7/1: AST Dew Tour on NBC (3:00 PM Sunday)
- Baseball on FOX is finally on the right track. The 2.1 rating for coverage on Saturday marks a 31% increase from the 1.6 overnight for coverage on the comparable date last year. This is the second straight week baseball on FOX has seen increasing ratings from last year, after a midseason slump that brought nine straight weeks of declining ratings and a possible record low rating earlier this month.
