- CBS: Patriots/Cowboys gave CBS its highest regular season rating since the network returned to airing NFL coverage in 1998. The 18.5 overnight is a 37% increase from Chiefs/Steelers last year, and marks the highest overnight for a regular season NFL game since Cowboys/Giants drew a 19.1 on FOX last December. Early game coverage also saw a boost for CBS; the 8.6 for regional action in the 1:00 PM window is an 8% jump from comparable coverage in ’06.
- CBS had the luxury of having an SEC team ranked #1 in the nation for only two weeks. Still, the network can be pleased that two weeks of classic LSU games have brought the network huge ratings. After a 5.7 overnight for LSU/Florida last week, the Tigers’ loss to Kentucky drew a 4.4 overnight — 91% higher than the 2.3 for Mississippi/Alabama last year.
- NBC: Sunday Night Football and Notre Dame were major duds for NBC over the weekend. While the Saints/Seahawks SNF game saw a 4% jump from the comparable Raiders/Broncos game last year, the 8.4/13 overnight is the second-lowest ever for NBC Sunday Night Football. Meanwhile, the hapless Fighting Irish could not draw much of an audience to their loss to Boston College; the 2.3 overnight made the game the lowest rated college football game of the weekend on broadcast.
- FOX: The NFL on FOX fared well on Sunday; regional coverage in the 1:00 PM window drew an 11.6 overnight, a 21% increase over the 9.6 rating for comparable coverage last year. FOX NFL Sunday outdrew The NFL Today by 23%.
- ABC: With its lightest college football Saturday in recent memory, ABC still could not avoid a big drop in ratings. The 3.5 overnight for coverage featuring USC, South Carolina and Penn State marked a 24% drop from a 4.6 overnight for coverage in the comparable timeslot last year.
Auto racing.
4.0: NASCAR on ABC, Bank of America 500 (7:30 PM Saturday)
2.3: NASCAR Countdown on ABC (7:00 PM Saturday)
0.6/1: Championship Off-Road Racing on NBC (2:30 PM Sunday)
- NASCAR on ABC saw a small drop from last year; the 4.0 overnight for the Bank of America 500 is down 2% from a 4.1 overnight for the same race in 2006.
Other.
1.7/3: PBR on FOX, Rocky Boots Invitational (4:30 PM, Sunday)
0.9: Figure Skating on ABC, Frosted Pink (4:00 PM Sunday)
0.8/2: LPGA Tour on NBC, Samsung World Championship, Final round (3:00 PM Sunday)
0.8/2: LPGA Tour on NBC, Samsung World Championship, Third round (1:30 PM Sunday)
0.5/1: LG Action Sports World Tour on CBS (2:00 PM Sunday)
- Sizable ratings declines for the Samsung World Championship; final round coverage fell 33% from last year. The 0.8 average for weekend coverage on NBC marks a 27% decline from the 1.1 average weekend coverage from in 2006.
