1.8/4: Army High School All-American Bowl on NBC (1 PM Saturday)
0.9: Under Armour All-America High School Football Game on ABC (2 PM Saturday)
- CBS: Titans/Chargers drew the highest rating of any of the four Wild Card games, though that may be a product of its timeslot more than anything else. The 18.6 overnight for the Chargers’ victory marks a 9% decline from the 20.4 Giants/Eagles drew on FOX in ’07.
- FOX: The 17.1 overnight for Giants/Buccaneers marks a 2% decline from the comparable Jets/Patriots game on CBS last year, the smallest decline for any of the Wild Card games.
- NBC: NBC averaged a 16.1 overnight for its Wild Card doubleheader, up 4% from last year. Washington/Seahawks was the only Wild Card game to see increasing ratings; the 15.4 for Seattle’s victory marks a 12% jump from Chiefs/Colts in ’07. Jaguars/Steelers, meanwhile, held its own despite not featuring big markets. The game drew a 16.7 rating, down only 3% from the Cowboys/Seahawks game last year.
- In the battle of High School Football games, NBC won easily. Despite relatively heavy promotion from ESPN/ABC, the Under Armour game drew a 0.8, and was trounced head to head by NBC’s All-American Bowl. The All American Bowl drew a 1.8 rating, 125% higher than ABC’s game, and up 6% from the same game in ’07.
Basketball.
1.2/2: Men’s college basketball on CBS, Louisville/Kentucky (4 PM Saturday)
0.9/2: Women’s college basketball on CBS, Tennessee/Notre Dame (2 PM Saturday)
0.6/2: Women’s college basketball on CBS, Penn State/Michigan State (12 PM Saturday)
0.6/1: Women’s college basketball on CBS, Connecticut/Purdue (1:30 PM Sunday)
- College basketball is not much of a draw in January. Still, the 1.2 overnight for Louisville/Kentucky marks a 20% increase from the comparable Tennessee/Connecticut women’s game in ’07.
- Tennessee continues to be a relatively strong draw. The 0.9 overnight for their game against Notre Dame marks a 50% jump from the Michigan/Maryland game in the same timeslot last year. That being said, the 0.9 overnight marks a double-digit decline from the Tennessee/Connecticut game that aired in a later timeslot last year.
Other.
0.8/2: PBR on NBC, Versus Invitational (4:30 PM Sunday)
- Now done with its NFL coverage, NBC can look forward to months of low ratings. The 0.8 for the PBR Versus International marks a 27% drop from the 1.1 the same event drew last year in an earlier timeslot.
