The Roger Clemens/Brian McNamee Congressional Hearing led all three nightly network newscasts Wednesday night.
On NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, reporter Tom Costello had a four and a half minute report, which was followed up by an interview between host Brian Williams and NBC Sports personality Bob Costas.
Costas: “I was looking for something from [Clemens] that would refute McNamee’s testimony. … McNamee has no apparent reason to lie.”
During the same interview, Costas also speculated that performing enhancing drug use “may have involved at one time or another half of the players in the game.”
The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, hosted tonight by fill-in Russ Mitchell, featured two reports on the hearings, starting with a four minute report by Bob Orr. That was followed up with a report on the evidence cited by McNamee by Armen Keteyian.
ABC World News with Charles Gibson also featured two reports on the hearings. Reporter John Berman had the first report, and characterized the hearings as “extraordinary.” A follow up was done by ABC News legal correspondent Jan Crawford Greenberg, who regularly covers the Supreme Court.
