Disney synergy strikes again.
With ESPN Radio personality Mike Greenberg set to return to network television as host of ABC’s Duel, ESPN colleague John Anderson has secured his own gig on the alphabet network.
The longtime SportsCenter anchor will be joined by Jill Wagner as the host of ABC’s newest reality show, Wipe Out.
Wipe Out, from the people who brought us Fear Factor, is a reality “competition designed to produce what [ABC] hopes will be ‘the most crashes, face plants, impacts and wipeouts ever seen on television.’“
The show features contestants on an obstacle course “designed to make people crash and burn.” While people looking foolish and falling flat on their faces — literally — sounds right up the alley of the sarcastic Anderson, it will be interesting to see if his SportsCenter schtick translates to a more general audience.
Anderson and Greenberg are not the only ESPN personalities to make the transition to ABC. Kenny Mayne hosted a NASCAR game show last summer, and several years ago Stuart Scott hosted a one-hour special on David Blaine attempting to hold his breath.
