In prime time, Tiger Woods and the U.S. Open finished ahead Kobe Bryant and the NBA.
From 7:00-9:00 PM, U.S. Open coverage drew an 11.4/22 overnight on NBC. Ratings peaked at 8:30 PM, with a 13.5/24. NBC drew 13.8 million viewers and a 3.9/13 rating among adults 18-49, according to preliminary numbers.
Meanwhile, Game 5 of the NBA Finals drew a 10.1/17 overnight from 9:00 to 11:00 PM on ABC, good enough to help the network win the night in total viewers and among adults 18-49.
Keep in mind this highly important point: these results are for prime time only. NBC golf coverage began at 3:00 PM, meaning the overnight for complete coverage is likely to finish below the 11.4/22. Additionally, NBA coverage ended after midnight, meaning the most of the second half and all of the fourth quarter is not factored into the 10.1 prime time overnight.
When non-prime time coverage of both events are factored in, the NBA could still finish on top.
