- The final round of the British Open drew a 3.3/10 final rating with 4.6 million viewers on ABC Sunday, down 11% and 10% from a 3.7/12 with 5.1 million viewers last year. The 3.3 rating is the lowest for the final round of The Open since at least 1997, and marks only the second time in that span that final round coverage drew less than a 4.0 rating. Saturday coverage drew a 2.4/8 with 3.4 million viewers, flat in ratings but up 11% in total viewers from last year.
- Entering yesterday’s All Star Game, Major League Soccer telecasts on ESPN2 were averaging a 0.2 cable rating with 289,000 viewers, even in ratings and up 17% in total viewers from last year. The most viewed telecast so far was the Earthquakes/Galaxy game on the first Thursday of the season (399,000 viewers).
- Four racing series took the air last weekend, with the IRL finishing in the top spot. The Honda Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio drew a 1.3/3 final rating on ABC Sunday afternoon, down 24% from a 1.7 last year, but the highest rated IRL telecast of the season excluding the Indy 500. Meanwhile, MotoGP U.S. Grand Prix drew a 0.9 on CBS, the F1 Grand Prix of Germany drew a 0.7 on FOX, the American Le Mans Series on NBC finished with a 0.6.
