Ratings were down for the first college basketball telecasts of the season on CBS.
An overtime matchup between Georgetown and Memphis, which also marked the debut of Clark Kellogg as the network’s lead analyst, drew a 1.3 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, down 7% from a 1.4 for the network’s first game last season — Michigan/Duke.
The second game of the doubleheader, a blowout between Indiana and Kentucky, drew a 1.5 overnight, down 12% from a 1.7 for the same matchup a year ago.
Overall, CBS averaged a 1.4 overnight for its doubleheader on Saturday, down 10% from last year.
* Comparisons are to CBS’ season opening doubleheader last year, which occurred on December 8. On the comparable date last year (December 15), CBS aired one game — Louisville/Purdue — which drew a 1.2 overnight rating.
