Coming off an offseason of big acquisitions and a steroids admission from the team’s biggest star, the New York Yankees have set ratings records locally during Spring Training.
Last Thursday’s Yankees/Rays Spring Training game, one of Alex Rodriguez‘ first after his admission of the use of performance enhancing drugs, drew a 1.19 rating on YES Network in New York, at the time the highest rating ever for a weekday afternoon Yankees’ spring training game on the network.
That record was surpassed days later when an exhibition between Team USA and the Yankees, featuring Yankee star Derek Jeter playing against his own team, drew a 1.24 rating.
To put those ratings in perspective, New York Knicks telecasts are averaging a 1.26 rating on MSG, while New York Rangers games are averaging a 1.06.
