Competitive eating topped Major League Baseball and Wimbledon in the ratings last week.
The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest drew a 0.9 U.S. rating (1.0 cable) and 1.3 million viewers on ESPN July 4. The contest topped the Wimbledon men’s and women’s semifinals (0.7 on ESPN2 Thursday and Friday, respectively), two MLB telecasts on ESPN (0.7 each), and tied an IRL race on ABC (0.9).
Additionally, the contest outdrew two AVP Crocs Tour telecasts on NBC (0.6 each) and the MotoGP U.S. Grand Prix on FOX (0.5).
Going back further, the 0.9 for the Hot Dog Eating Contest surpasses the rating for last year’s MLS Cup (0.6).
