- Months after the debut ESPNChicago.com, ESPN plans to launch city-specific sites for New York, Los Angeles and Dallas over the course of the next year. ESPNDallas.com will launch later this fall, followed by ESPNNewYork.com and ESPNLosAngeles.com in 2010. Each site will include localized, short versions of SportsCenter, as well as “[o]nline radio and podcasts from local ESPN Radio flagship stations.”
- Two years after the short-lived reality show Shaq’s Big Challenge, Shaquille O’Neal is headed back to prime time. O’Neal will headline the new reality show Shaq Vs., in which he competes against star athletes in their given sport. Filming begins Wednesday, with O’Neal competing against Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger in football. O’Neal will also take on Oscar de La Hoya, Michael Phelps and Albert Pujols.
- ESPN will begin its NASCAR Sprint Cup coverage with a special 1 hour, 45 minute edition of NASCAR Countdown (12:30 PM Sunday). Among the features on the prerace show will be a Jeff Gordon interview conducted by Live with Regis & Kelly co-host Kelly Ripa.
