Is a familiar face in Chicago sports media returning?
Sports By Brooks reports that Fanhouse blogger Jay Mariotti, formerly of the Chicago Sun-Times, will join the Chicago Tribune beginning September 1. Mariotti will write “1-2 columns per week” for the paper, while still writing at Fanhouse.com and making appearances on ESPN.
According to Sports By Brooks, Mariotti’s “primary motivation” in moving to the Tribune is “to get back at his former employer,” the aforementioned Chicago Sun-Times.
Both Mariotti and the Chicago Tribune are denying the report. In a statement, a Tribune spokesperson told the Chicago Daily Herald that the story “is not true.” Meanwhile, Mariotti said that while he and the Tribune “have had discussions about various projects,” nothing has been finalized. Additionally, a Tribune employee told Chicagoist, “I haven’t heard anything about it, sorry. And I would have heard something.”
