After sinking to a series low for Game 3, viewership soared for Game 4 of the WNBA Finals.
Game 4 of the Mercury/Fever series drew 670,000 viewers on ESPN2 Wednesday night, up slightly from 669,000 viewers for Shock/Mercury Game 4 in ’07. There was no comparable game last year.
Mercury/Fever Game 4 ranks as the most-viewed WNBA Finals game since 2006 (Shock/Monarchs Game 4, 793,000 viewers).
Game 4 drew a 6.4 rating in Indianapolis, the second-highest local rating ever for a WNBA game on the ESPN family of networks. In Phoenix, the game drew a 1.0 rating.
Entering Friday’s decisive Game 5, the 2009 WNBA Finals is averaging a 0.37 U.S. rating and 521,000 viewers on ESPN2, up 61% and 65%, respectively, from a 0.23 and 316,000 for last year’s three-game Silver Stars/Shock series. The 2007 Mercury/Shock series averaged 545,000 viewers for the full five games.
