Major League Baseball plans to alter its postseason schedule in 2010.
MLB Commissioner Bud Selig says there will be a reduction in the amount of off days between games during the 2010 MLB postseason. This would be the first change to the MLB postseason schedule since the current format was introduced in 2007.
Under the current playoff format, MLB added off games between Games 4 and 5 in the Division Series and League Championship Series. The changes were made in part to accommodate moving the start of the World Series from a Saturday to a Wednesday.
Selig was definite that changes would take place. Selig: “Oh, we’re going to change it for next year. … I’ve been looking at it every day, looking at what days we can eliminate.”
However, Selig was not specific on any changes, saying he’s “not sure what tact to take,” and that he “[doesn’t] want to get into details now.”
