Ratings crept up for last week’s Farmers Insurance Open, but remained well below previous years.
Final round coverage of the Farmers Insurance Open drew a 2.2 final rating and 3.1 million viewers on CBS last Sunday, up 10% in ratings and 5% in viewership from last year (2.0, 3.0 mil), but down 48% and 50%, respectively, from 2008 (4.2, 6.2 mil).
The 2.2 rating is the second-lowest for final round coverage of the event since at least ’97.
To put the numbers in perspective, final round coverage of the Farmers Insurance Open (formerly the Buick Invitational) drew a 5.8 rating as recently as four years ago — and an 8.0 rating ten years ago.
On Saturday, third round coverage drew a 1.5 final rating and 2.1 million viewers, up 25% in ratings and 30% in viewers from last year (1.2, 1.7 mil), but down 44% and 43%, respectively, from 2008 (2.7, 3.8 mil).
