For the second straight week, FOX plans to play music during live NFL game action.
According to USA Today, FOX will “formally announce” Friday that it will add music to Cardinals/Panthers on Sunday afternoon. This comes just one week after the network tested the concept on a 49ers/Seahawks game.
While music is ubiquitous in sports programming, it is usually only used at the beginning and end of games, before and after commercial breaks, or during highlight packages.
The idea of using music during game action is likely unprecedented.
FOX Sports President Eric Shanks is even open to the idea of playing music during Super Bowl XLV, calling it a “possibility.”
Shanks also did not rule out using music from “famous artists” or even picking songs for crosspromotion purposes.
