Coming off of major ratings success with the 2010 World Cup, ESPN has retained the rights to soccer’s European Championships in both 2012 and 2016.
ESPN will televise every game of the 2012 and 2016 UEFA European Football Championship, the Associated Press reports.
The deal, expected to be announced Tuesday, calls for matches to air across a variety of ESPN platforms, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3.com and ESPN Deportes.
The Associated Press report did not mention ABC, which aired the Euro 2008 final.
With the deal, ESPN will have televised a major international soccer tournament every other year over the course of ten years — the World Cup in 2006, 2010 and 2014, and the European Championship in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
ESPN3.com and ESPN Deportes will also air the 2013 UEFA European Women’s Championship, as well as UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship every other year from 2011 to 2017.
