One year after testing the waters with a pair of primetime regular season MLB telecasts, FOX is set to air three straight weeks of primetime games in May.
FOX will air primetime regular season MLB coverage on May 14, May 21 and May 28, according to the MLB national television schedule on mlb.com. All three telecasts are scheduled to begin at 7:10 PM ET.
The telecasts will include three regional games on May 14, four on May 21, and a whopping six on May 28. Several of the games feature intriguing matchups, including Red Sox/Yankees on May 14, and Cubs/Red Sox, Mets/Yankees and Rangers/Phillies on May 21.
The hockey media website Puck the Media originally reported the FOX primetime games on Monday.
FOX is also scheduled to air Giants/Dodgers at 7:10 PM ET on July 30, with two other games scheduled for 4:10 PM. It was unclear whether Giants/Dodgers would air as the second half of a rare MLB on FOX doubleheader, or if it would be part of a regional telecast.
The possibility also exists that the 7:10 PM start for that game is an error.
The three primetime games are not the only change to the FOX MLB schedule. The network is scheduled to air 1:10 PM ET games for the first time since the 2006 season on April 9, April 30 and May 7.
Those three dates coincide with three Saturday night NASCAR races on FOX. Last year, FOX started its afternoon MLB coverage at 3 PM ET on dates when it aired primetime NASCAR coverage; one imagines the network wanted more of a buffer between telecasts this year.
