Sunday’s Auto Club 500 was off double-digits from the same race last year, but the decline was only slight compared to last year’s fifth race of the season.
FOX earned a 4.1 overnight rating for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Auto Club 500 from Fontana, down a tick from last year’s fifth race of the season (Bristol: 4.2), and flat compared to the fifth race in 2009 (Bristol: 4.1).
The 4.1 also marks an 18% decline from last year’s Auto Club 500, which aired in February (5.0).
Overall, Sunday’s race ranks as the lowest rated Auto Club 500 in the metered markets since 2000 (3.7, ABC). Overnights for the race have now declined or remained flat in each of the past six years.
After the first three Sprint Cup races of the season had increases in overnight ratings, the last two have suffered declines.
