The second and final meeting of the season between Kobe Bryant‘s Lakers and LeBron James‘ Heat scored big numbers for TNT Thursday night.
TNT earned a 3.6 overnight rating for Miami’s win over the Lakers Thursday night, up 300% from last year’s comparable game (CHI/ORL: 0.9), which aired in a later timeslot.
This marks the third-highest overnight of the season for an NBA game on cable, surpassed only by Heat/Celtics on Opening Night (5.6) and Heat/Cavaliers on December 2 (5.0).
The first meeting of the season between the Heat and Lakers, a Christmas Day game on broadcast network ABC, earned a 7.3 overnight.
Later in the night, the Mavericks’ blowout win over the Knicks drew a 2.0 overnight, up 150% from last year (POR/GS: 0.8).
