For the first time since Baseketball, broadcasters Al Michaels and Bob Costas will join forces in the broadcast booth.
Michaels and Costas will pair up to call the July 8 Mets/Giants Major League Baseball game on MLB Network, the first time ever the two have called an MLB telecast together.
The NBC colleagues regularly work together on the network’s Sunday Night Football telecasts, in which Costas serves as onsite studio host and Michaels is the lead play-by-play voice.
While Costas is a regular on MLB Network, the game will mark the first time since the 1995 World Series that Michaels has been in the booth for an MLB telecast.
Michaels was the lead play-by-play voice for Major League Baseball on ABC from 1976 to 1989, and again during the failed Baseball Network venture from 1994 to 1995. Separately, Michaels and Costas called the 1995 World Series, as part of a bizarre set-up in which games alternated between ABC and NBC.
The duo will “also make special appearances” on the local SNY and Comcast SportsNet Bay Area telecasts during the game.
