Despite hefty competition from the NBA Finals, coverage of the 2011 Gold Cup managed to attract a solid audience on Univision Thursday night.
The Mexico/Cuba Gold Cup match drew 4.858 million viewers on Univision Thursday night. The match was the night’s #2 program among adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-49, behind only Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
The match was the second-most viewed program of the night in several NBA markets, including Dallas-Ft. Worth, Los Angeles, Houston, the Bay Area, and Sacramento. The match also ranked second in adults 18-34, adults 18-49, men 18-34 and men 18-49 in Dallas, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, the Bay Area, and Sacramento.
Of course, the top program of the night in those markets was the NBA Finals.
In Phoenix, however, the Mexico/Cuba match was actually the #1 program of the night among adults 18-34 and men 18-34.
Through June 9 (eight telecasts), coverage of the Gold Cup on the Univision family of networks has averaged 1.812 million viewers, up 92% from 2009.
