Though once again down compared to last year, Friday’s Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final was up from 2009.
The fifth game of the Canucks/Bruins series earned a 3.2 overnight rating on NBC Friday night, down 20% from last year (PHI/CHI G5: 4.0), but up 28% from 2009 (PIT/DET G5: 2.5).
Last year’s Game 5 aired on a Sunday night opposite the NBA Finals. Game 5 in 2009 aired on a Saturday night.
Compared to previous Stanley Cup finals to involve a Canadian team, Friday’s game drew a higher overnight than Ducks/Senators Game 5 in 2007 (2.5) and Oilers/Hurricanes Game 5 in 2006 (2.9), and matched Flames/Lightning Game 5 in 2004 (3.2, ABC).
Game 5 drew a 25.8 rating in Boston, which Puck the Media reports is a series-high.
