NBC’s second Notre Dame telecast of the season had a precipitous decline in ratings and viewership compared to last year.
Notre Dame’s win over #15 Michigan State drew a 2.6 final rating and 3.831 million viewers on NBC last Saturday, down 42% in ratings and 45% in viewership from NBC’s second Notre Dame telecast last year (MICH/ND: 4.5, 6.973M), and down 4% in both measures compared to 2009 (MSU/ND: 2.7, 4.001M).
Despite the drop, the numbers were better than average for Notre Dame coverage on NBC. Of the past 30 Notre Dame games on NBC (dates back to the start of the 2007 season), last week’s game ranks as the sixth-most viewed.
Relative to its competition, the game was outdrawn by Tennessee/#15 Florida on CBS and all three games on ABC.
