Despite the lopsided result, Sunday’s Falcons/Giants NFL Wild Card game earned strong numbers for FOX.
Sunday’s NFC Wild Card game, a 24-2 rout of the Falcons by the Giants, earned a 17.3 final rating and 27.7 million viewers on FOX — up 2% in ratings but down 2% in viewership from last year’s comparable game (BAL/KC: 17.1, 28.384M), and up 2% and 1%, respectively, from the comparable game in 2010 (BAL/NE: 16.9, 27.413M).
The game ranks as the lowest rated and least-viewed NFL Wild Card game on FOX since 2008 (NYG/TB: 15.1, 22.973M). Keep in mind that FOX has aired the late Sunday afternoon game — typically the highest rated of Wild Card weekend — in each of the previous three seasons.
Though low for FOX, the 17.3 rating is tied as the highest for the early Sunday afternoon Wild Card game since 2004 (SEA/GB: 19.1).
