Annual rights fees for the Rose Bowl will more than double under the new television deal signed last month.
Sports Business Journal reported Monday that ESPN will pay an annual rights fee of $80 million for rights to the Rose Bowl starting in the 2014-15 season, up 167% from the $30 million per year ABC paid under the current deal.
The overall value of the deal, which lasts through the 2025-26 season, is $960 million — up 300% from $240 million under the current contract.
Still up for grabs are television rights to the Orange Bowl, the new ‘Champions’ Bowl, and the semifinals and championship game of the new playoff system.
