NBC earned another massive overnight rating for coverage of the 2012 London Olympics Thursday night.
Tape delayed primetime coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics drew a 23.1 overnight rating on NBC Thursday, up 10% from Beijing in 2008 (21.0), and up just a tick from Athens in 2004 (23.0).
The comparable night of the most recent Olympics — the 2010 Winter Olympics from Vancouver — earned a 16.6 overnight.
Thursday’s telecast drew the second-highest overnight of the Olympics, trailing Tuesday’s telecast (24.0), and just ahead of last Friday’s Opening Ceremony (23.0).
Salt Lake City, thus far the highest rated market during the Olympics, led the way Thursday night with a 31.2 rating. Milwaukee (30.0), Norfolk, VA (29.9), Kansas City (27.4) and Denver (26.8).
