The season’s final major hit a three-year high in overnights on CBS, but the numbers were not necessarily great.
Final round coverage of the PGA Championship drew a 4.4 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, up 13% from coverage opposite the Olympics last year (3.9), and up a tick from 2011 (4.3).
The 4.4 overnight is the highest for the final round since 2010 (5.0), but is also the fourth-lowest since at least 1995 (overnights prior to 1996 were not available).
Earlier in the day, TNT drew a 1.5 overnight for final round coverage — up 15% from last year’s 1.3.
All six PGA Championship telecasts (four on TNT, two on CBS) had double-digit increases over last year. Overall, TNT averaged a 1.5 overnight for its coverage (+50%) and CBS averaged a 3.7 (+19%). Again, keep in mind that last year’s coverage faced the Olympics.
