Television ratings for the Tigers fell just short of a record-high Wednesday night. In other news, the Pirates are still drawing well on Root Sports, and NASCAR’s Nationwide Series had a big increase compared to last year’s Olympics-affected coverage.
Tigers Earn Second-Best Rating on FSD
- Wednesday’s Tigers/Indians Major League Baseball game drew a 15.46 rating on Fox Sports Detroit, the network’s second-highest Tigers rating ever. Only a September 2009 Twins/Tigers game earned a higher rating (15.6). So far this season, the Tigers are averaging a 9.4 rating on FSD. (Nielsen)
Pirates Ratings Still Hot on Root Sports
- Also Wednesday, the Marlins/Pirates game drew a 13.0 rating on Root Sports in the Pittsburgh market — the network’s fourth-highest Pirates rating ever. Pirates coverage on Root Sports has averaged a 7.4 rating this season, up 15% from the comparable point last year. (Nielsen)
Nationwide Series at Iowa Up From Last Year
- Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series U.S. Cellular 250 from Iowa earned a 1.0 U.S. rating and 1.5 million viewers on ESPN, up 43% in ratings and 39% in viewership from last year (0.7, 1.1M), but down 9% and 10%, respectively, from 2011 (1.1, 1.7M). Last year’s race aired opposite the Olympics. (ESPN)
