The Super Bowl pregame show was the highest rated in 12 years, according to FOX. In other news, the halftime show set a viewership record, and FOX had mixed numbers for its postgame sitcoms.
Super Bowl Pregame Hits 12-Year High
- The Super Bowl 48 pregame show earned a 12.0 final rating and 23.1 million viewers on FOX, according to Nielsen fast-nationals, the highest rated and most-viewed pregame on any network since 2002 (12.3, 23.3M). Compared to last year, the 12.0 rating marked a 20% increase over last year’s pregame on CBS (10.0) — with the caveat that the CBS pregame did not include the final half-hour before kickoff.
FOX Scores Record Audience For Halftime Show
- Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show, featuring the singer Bruno Mars, earned 115.3 million viewers — the largest audience ever for the halftime segment. The previous high was set in 2012 by the Madonna halftime performance (114.0M).
Super Bowl Lead-Out Shows Mixed
- The FOX sitcoms “New Girl” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” drew 25.8 and 14.8 million viewers, respectively, compared to 20.8 million for the hour-long CBS drama “Elementary” last year. Keep in mind “Elementary” aired nearly an hour later last year.
