The ‘fast-national’ numbers Fox Sports touted for Super Bowl 48 actually underestimated the size of the audience.
Super Bowl 48 earned a 46.7 final rating and 112.2 million viewers on FOX, up 1% in ratings and viewership over the ‘fast-national’ numbers released yesterday (46.4, 111.5M). Though it is not unusual for the final numbers to differ from the fast-nationals, the addition of nearly one million additional viewers is notable.
With the final adjustments, Super Bowl 48 now stands alone as the second-highest rated television program since 1994, behind only Super Bowl 46 (47.0). The game already held the record for the most-viewed program in U.S. TV history.
Also adjusted from the fast-nationals were the FOX lead-out sitcoms “New Girl” (26.3M) and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (15.1M).
