Former SportsCenter anchor Josh Elliott has left ABC’s Good Morning America for NBC Sports, according to multiple reports.
Elliott had been a co-host on GMA since leaving SportsCenter three years ago. In contract negotiations with ABC, he reportedly sought an increase in salary from $1 million per year to over $8 million, with ABC offering $4 million (NYDN, 3/28). NBC Sports has been rumored as a potential landing spot for Elliott for months.
Details of Elliott’s move to NBC were not immediately available, but previous reporting indicates that he would have a position in both news and sports for NBC. Deadline.com described his potential role at NBC as “a sort of next-generation Bob Costas” (Deadline, 3/27).
Elliott worked for ESPN from 2004-11, anchoring the morning SportsCenter with Hannah Storm in his final three years there. Prior to joining ESPN, he worked as a writer for Sports Illustrated.
