A mediocre season for NASCAR on FOX ended with another multi-year low.
Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Dover earned a 3.3 overnight rating on FOX, down 6% from last year (3.5), down 8% from 2012 (3.6), and the lowest overnight for the race since moving to FOX in 2007.
The 3.3 overnight is tied as the third-lowest ever for NASCAR Sprint Cup racing on FOX, matching Phoenix in 2009 and Kansas this year. The only races to earn lower overnights were this year’s Darlington (3.2) and Richmond (3.0) races. The 3.3 is also the lowest ever for a Sunday race on FOX.
Sunday marked the end of a less-than-stellar season for NASCAR on FOX. The network has earned its lowest-ever overnights at Daytona, Martinsville, Las Vegas, Darlington, Talladega, Richmond, Kansas, Charlotte and Dover and its second-lowest overnight at Fontana. The Phoenix race had the network’s lowest overnight ever for the second race of the season.
Despite the lower numbers, Sunday’s race was the #2 sporting event of the weekend on broadcast or cable, edging Game 7 of the NHL Western Conference final on NBCSN (3.2). Only Game 6 of the NBA Western Conference Finals on TNT did better (5.7).
