The final race before the Chase For the Cup was the lowest rated in years on ABC.
NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Richmond drew a 3.0 final rating and 4.9 million viewers on ABC Saturday, down 9% in ratings and 5% in viewership from last year (3.3, 5.2M) and down 9% and 3%, respectively, from 2012 (3.3, 5.1M), and the least-viewed edition of the race since at least 2001 (excludes rainouts).
Saturday’s race was just the latest Sprint Cup telecast to hit at least a 10-year low in viewership. Among the others was the season’s first Richmond race, which hit a 10-year low on FOX in April.
In addition to the viewership low, the 3.0 rating tied 2003 as the lowest for the race since at least 2001.
Of the 23 Sprint Cup races this season that can be compared to last year, 19 have had declines in ratings and 18 have had declines in viewership.
