Once again, the SEC on CBS was the top college football telecast of the week in the overnights.
The Auburn/Mississippi State game drew a 3.8 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, up 12% from Florida/LSU last year (3.4), up 73% from Alabama/Missouri in 2012 (2.2), and the top college football telecast of the week. The SEC on CBS has been the week’s top draw in each of the past two weeks and four of the last five.
An afternoon game has either tied or earned the top overnight rating all seven weeks this season.
With that said, the 3.8 overnight is also the season’s lowest for the top game of any week. The previous mark was a 3.9 for Alabama/Mississippi on CBS a week earlier. Furthermore, the 3.8 is well below what one would usually expect for a battle between the nation’s #2 and #3 teams.
As was the case the previous week, Saturday’s game had hefty competition. ABC’s regional window, featuring a top ten battle between Baylor and TCU, drew a 2.7 overnight. NBC earned a 2.3 for unbeaten Notre Dame. Finally, FOX scored a 1.4 for Oregon/UCLA. Together, those three games combined for a 6.4 overnight.
Earlier Saturday, Georgia/Missouri drew a 2.1 overnight. There was no comparable telecast last year.
