One of three primetime games with playoff implications, TCU’s blowout of Kansas State was an afterthought on FOX.
The Kansas State/TCU college football game drew a 1.4 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, down 13% from Texas/West Virginia last year (1.6) and down 26% from Kansas State/TCU in 2012 (1.9). The 1.4 is the third-lowest overnight of the season for primetime college football on FOX, ahead of only Baylor/Iowa State in September and Fresno State/USC in August (0.9 for both).
Despite featuring a pair of top ten teams, TCU’s 21-point win was crushed head-to-head by Ohio State/Michigan State on ABC (4.2) and Alabama/LSU on CBS (5.3) and even trailed Virginia/Florida State on ESPN (1.5).
Over on Fox Sports 1, the Noon ET Baylor/Oklahoma game was the net’s top draw with a 1.3 overnight — nearly matching Kansas State/TCU. Keep in mind Baylor won that game by 34 points. The lack of competition in the Noon window was clearly a factor, and it is possible Kansas State/TCU would have done far better in that window instead of primetime.
FS1 also earned a 0.8 overnight for West Virginia/Texas and a 0.5 for UCLA/Washington.
